Mediterranean Champion China 2019 semifinals are set
  • Hoffenheim, Zenit, San Jose and Luneng advanced to the next round after winning their BU14 quarter finals matches

  • Valencia is the only international team still alive in the GU13 category. Jiangsu, Shandong and SFA, their rivals

The MCC is reaching its latter stages. Semi-finals are already set in both categories, BU14 and GU13, and only 4 teams stay alive in each competition. Hoffenheim (Germany), Zenit (Russia), San Jose (United States) and Luneng (China) will compete to lyft the trophy in the BU14. Meanwhile, in the GU13 there are 3 local teams, Jiangsu, Shandong and SFA, that will try to keep the cup in the country; the only international team that can avoid the Chinese success is the Spanish Valencia CF.

The semifinals will be played on Thursday, August 1st, with the following schedule:

10.00 China / 4.00 Europe – BU14 TSG Hoffenheim vs San Jose Earthquakes

10.00 China / 4.00 Europe – BU14 Luneng vs FC Zenit

15.00 China / 9.00 Europe – GU13 Jiangsu vs Valencia CF

15.00 China / 9.00 Europe – GU13 Shandong vs Shangai FA

MCC 2019, following the success of the first edition
The second edition of youth football tournament Mediterranean Champion China kicked off on Saturday, July 28th with the Opening Ceremony, chaired by Demetrio Albertini, former FC Barcelona, AC Milan and Italian National Squad player, who won 3 UEFA Champion League. He is the ambassador of the MCC, the only FIFA licensed tournament organized by a Spanish company in Asia. Alongside him, more others VIP attended to the event starting: Ms. Shi Wenjie, Deputy Secretary General of Kunming; Mr. Wang Junsheng, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of China Football Association, Mr. Delfin Vives, CEO and Co-Owner of Mare Nostrum Cup; Yu Hongying, Yunnan Provincial Sports Bureau Director;  Mr. Mu Renzao, Director of the Kunming Municipal Education and Sports Bureau; and Wang Jianguang , Chairman of the China Future Investment Co. They officially opened the 2019MCC Mediterranean China (Kunming) Championship.

Mr. Delfin Vives, represented Mare Nostrum Cup, the Spanish company based in Salou, Spain, that signed an agreement with the Asian Company China Sports Futurity Investment (CSFI) to launch the MCC until 2027.  Vives made the first speech thanking Yunnan Sports Bureau, Kunming Municipal Government and China Future Investment Co., Ltd. for their successful efforts in the event, and said that the MCC have built a bridge for the exchanges between China and the rest of the world, and football this bridge is made of, where players from different cultures gather together to convey common sports values, hard work, courage to create a better world under the sports spirit of persistence, equality, respect, unity and friendship.

The tournament has repeated same format than in 2018 and is being played in categories Boys U14 and Girls U13. There was a previous phase where over than 900 Chinese clubs played to reach the finals in Kunming and face the international teams. This year the amount of clubs coming from outside of Asia  increased, with a total of 7: RC Celta de Vigo from Spain, Crystal Palace (England), TSG Hoffenheim (Germany), FC Zenit (Russia) and San Jose Earthquakes (United States) are in the men category, while Espanyol and Valencia, both from Spain, have played in the women category. In total, there were 16 clubs in search of the U14 Boys title and 10 competing for the U13 girls. The best Asian teams of the MCC 2019 will play the Mare Nostrum Cup 2020 in Salou which will be celebrated during the Easter holidays.
