The international tournament Mediterranean Champion China, organized by the Catalan company Mare Nostrum Cup, returns to Kunming. The final phase of the second edition of the MCC is held again in the capital of the province of Yunnan between July 28th and August 2nd. In the summer of 2018, the prestigious youth football tournament that takes place in Salou since 2001 was replicated in China, being the first official FIFA competition ruled in Asia by a foreign company. The MCC became a reality after the agreement signed in April 2018 by the heads of the Spanish company and the Asian China Sports Futurity Investment (CSFI).

The tournament repeats format and is played in categories Boys U14 and Girls U13. It also has a previous phase where over than 900 Chinese clubs are playing access to the finals in Kunming, where they will face the international teams. This year the amount of clubs coming from outside Asia has increased, with a total of 7: RC Celta de Vigo from Spain, Crystal Palace (England), TSG Hoffenheim (Germany), FC Zenit (Russia) and San Jose Earthquakes (United States) will compete in the men category, while Espanyol and Valencia, both from Spain, will compete in the women category. In total, there are 16 clubs in search of the U14 Boys title and 8 competing for the U13 girls. The best Asian teams of the MCC 2019 will play the Mare Nostrum Cup 2020 in Salou which will be celebrated during the Easter holidays.

The MCC 2019 games will be broadcasted again online through the website and the organization expects repeat the audience of last year, with a total of about 30 million viewers. More than 5 million watched the opening of the tournament and 7.5 the finals, in which there was a double confrontation between Spanish and Chinese teams. The trophies flew to Europe: the GU13 Espanyol beat Dazhou 2-0 and Valencia BU14 defeated Luneng 3-0.


MCC insured until 2027

The agreement between Mare Nostrum and CSFI contemplates the annual celebration of the Chinese Mediterranean Champion for 10 years and the goal is to promote youth football in China, given to the local teams the opportunity to play against best clubs of European football.
